A stunning breed closely related to the Barbet and Standard Poodle, the Portuguese Water Dog, has grown in influential status. President Obama’s family has adopted The First Pet and it is reported to be home with the family. Their choice of breed The Portuguese Water Dog sometimes affectionately called the Portia is a water spaniel. Highly intelligent with a curly coat which does not shed, and webbed toes for swimming, create a strong breed often used as a gun dog. Maintenance is such that this breed requires grooming, due to the animals coat growing on a consistent basis. This fun loving, easily trainable breed has stepped into the spot light being the First Family’s breed of choice. Many are not in search of the beautiful breed and awaiting a new arrival of their own.
