Choosing a Chow!

Choosing a Chow Chow,

The Chow Chow is a beautiful dog to look at with it's lion apperence and its black toung. This breed originated in China, where it was used as a hunting dog. This breed does not move around to much during the hot summer months because of thier thick coat.

The Chow is devoted to thier families, but often do not do well with other pets. New owners should socialize there puppys to be sure they do not grow up to be aggressive to strangers. Puppy obedience classes are a good way to ensure your Chow receives thorough obedience training. The Chow does have a tendency to dominate people if they can get away with it so you will have to be firm and always be sure to follow through on commands.

The Chow is not an extremely active dog so he does not eat a lot but you should feed him nutritious puppy food while he is still young, and a good adult food when he is older. Because their coats are so dense they will require a lot of grooming.

Because the Chow is a big dog it can have trouble with their knee joints and can suffer from hip dysplasiaGeneral Info
