One of the oldest dogs of the terrier breed is the Cairn Terrier.
This is a dog that first came about in the Scottish Highlands,
but since then, can be found all over the world. This is a
working dog and use to be used a lot to hunt prey that would
burrow into the ground. The name Cairn Terriers actually was not
the first name that they were given. In fact, they say that the
Cairn Terrier was around long before the name Cairn Terrier was
given to them. They first were brought to the official shows in
the United Kingdom back in 1909, but they were under the name
Short Haired Skye Terriers. However, the name was not acceptable
due to opposition from many of the Skye terrier breeders, and the
name Cairn Terrier was given as an alternative. These dogs are
very smart, and they are very lively. The only problem that you
may have out of these dogs is that they love to dig!
