The Basset Hound is a very short legged breed of hunting dogs.
The Basset Hounds, when used for hunting, are used as scent
hounds. Most of these are used to hunt rabbits. When you break
down the name of the Basset Hound, you actually get a literal
translation of, a “rather low†hound. The main reason
why people choose to have Basset Hounds as pets is because of
their very friendly nature. They just love people and get along
with children really well. The only thing that you have to be
careful of is that a Basset Hound can just all of the sudden
“forget†all of it's training when there is not treat
or reward present. Also, the Basset Hound has one more bad combo.
It has very long ears and short legs. Sometimes they have a
problem where their ears actually drag on the ground. This can
lead to a deadly ear disease. So that is something that you are
going to have to have looked at.
