When looking for a member of the sight hound family that could be a good family dog as well, then you may want to think about getting a Whippet. This is a type of dog that looks much like the greyhound except a little bit smaller. Since this dog has become so popular, it's name has been used for many other things like cars and cookies. These are great dogs to have around the house, and they do make good family dogs. Now we will get into a little more detail about the personalities of these dogs and what you can expect from Whippets.
First of all, you should know that Whippets are usually a quiet breed; even the Whippet puppies are quite. Not only that, they are a very gentle breed and would not hurt a child. In fact, they are not prone to snapping at all, which makes them a good dog for children. The only thing that you should know, like most hounds, if they are not out hunting, they are a little lazy. They would be content just spending most of their days just napping. These dogs are very famous for sleeping in the dead bug position. This is the position where they are on their back with their legs in the air. These dogs are very friendly, but because of their nature, they may do dog barking when strangers arrive, however, they are unlikely to bite.
One thing to remember about when buying a Whippet for sale or Whippet puppies for sale is that it is a hound, so they do hunt. Thus, if a cat just so happens to come into your yard, that cat may have another thing coming to it. However, if they are raised with cats, then you may see that they can grow to love them. Of course, because of their size, cats tend to not like them. Something that is cool about the Whippets is that the males are as easy to house train as the females. In most dog breeds, the females learn twice as fast as the males. The Male Whippets are said to be a little bit more loyal than the female Whippets, and they do like to play more. The Female Whippets tend to be a little bit more complex and sometimes very strong willed.
If you have ever had a hound, you should know that they are not well adapted to living in kennels. The Whippet is no different. In fact, even though it's a hound, the Whippet does not like to be outside for long time spans. When you go inside the Whippet is going to expect to come with you. These dogs love to sleep, and they are happiest when kept indoors. They are so quite that they are well suited for apartment life. They are kind of big dogs, but this does not stop them from wanting to be lap dogs. You do have to take this dog walking to keep it healthy, however, unlike most dogs, this dog will sleep all day if you do not make it go out and do something. This is a smart dog, and you will love to have it in your family.
