American Foxhounds
The American foxhound is a breed of dog that is actually the cousin of the English Foxhound. This is, of course, a scent hound, and it was used to hunt foxes by scent. This is a very sweet dog, and lot of people love them. However, the American foxhound is a dog that is very stubborn once it picks up a trail of some kind. Once this happens, you can forget about the American foxhound listing to any of the commands you give it. This is a dog that would rather deal with the aftermath of not listening to you than to give up a scent. This is a trait that you can find even in the American Foxhound puppies for sale. This is a dog that is so loving at home, however, a lot of people have stopped using these dogs for hunting. Of course, this brings up another problem that people have with these dogs.
As we said before, the American foxhound loves to hunt. However, people like to make them home dogs. Well, the American foxhound is one of the smartest foxhounds alive. They can very easily learn to open gates and to scale fences to go hunting. This can become a problem. Once they pick up a scent you can not stop it until it gets its prey. To keep the American foxhound happy, you need to let it outside a lot. Sometimes it helps to have a dog radio fence around the fence that you put up for them. That way they do not try and jump the fence or open the gate. If you can put a dog door in one of your back doors so this dog can get in and out when it wants to, you will save yourself a lot of trouble. If not, you will find yourself letting this dog in and out over and over again. If you choose not to let it out, then you may find that they use the bathroom inside. Then you only have yourself to blame. After all, they told you that they had to go outside. It's good to let this dog out anyway. That is because they get so bored so fast. They can do things like tear up objects and are so tall that they can take things right off your counter tops. They do this not to be mean, but because they are bored.
The American foxhound is smarter than most dogs, so if it does get out, you do not have to worry about it getting hit by a car. They are street savvy and pretty much will just stick to trails. These dogs do make great family dogs and love to be at home with people. However, they do not make good apartment dogs. These dogs do not like to be left indoors for a long time span. If they are, they get really bored, and you could regret getting one of these dogs. These dogs get along with small children better than any other dog that you can find. This dog does get along with guests that you bring over, but the only thing that you need to remember after buying an American foxhound for sale is that the dog is likely to bite or claw when they feel threatened. This is just animal nature.
