Australian Cattle Dogs
There are a ton of herding dogs out there in the world. This is one of the key things dogs use to be used for a long time ago. One such dog is the Australian cattle dog. This is a dog that is sometimes also known as the Queensland Heeler or the Blue/Red Heeler. As you may be able to tell by its name, the Australian Cattle dog is a dog that was developed in Australia. The dog was made to control cattle. In fact, that was the whole reason behind breeding the dog in the first place. It is just a medium sized dog, and it does have a short coat of hair. In order to be able to control cattle, these Australian cattle dogs have to have a lot of energy. Even the Australian cattle dog puppies for sale have a lot of energy to burn. They are very intelligent dogs and, unlike other dogs, love independence.
All herding dogs have to have a lot of energy, but no dog has the same energy level as the Australian Cattle dog. These dogs love exercise, and if they are not going to be chasing after cattle, you are the one that is going to have to make sure they get tired out. These dogs love playing sports and love learning new tricks. Anything that seems like work, they love to do. Although some of these dogs do find that repetitive dog training is frustrating, they do learn very quickly. As a lot of dogs do, if these dogs do not get enough exercise, they become destructive. Unlike most herding dogs, however, the Australian cattle dog is wary by nature. They are very cautious, and they grow more so as they get older. Of course, it's their cautious nature towards strangers that make them great guard dogs. Now, these dogs have been known to herd more than just cattle as well. You can watch them herd ducks, chicken, or anything else. This dog loves to see things all neatly together. In fact, you have to be wary if you have kids, because this dog will herd them together by nipping their heels. There have been a lot of stories where families will go outside and see the kids standing together, afraid to move and the dog watching. This is because he herded them together.
If you have purchased a Australian cattle dog for sale then you need to encourage it to pick up a chew toy and chew on that to keep it away from the urge to nip people. Of course, you need to note that Australian Cattle dogs will go through a toy in just days, when it may have took another dog months. For some reason, these dogs all remove the skin of a tennis ball. They can do it without actually hurting the ball at all. What is also amazing is that they can remove the skin without it ripping apart at all.
These dogs usually live about 11 to 16 years max. Most of these dogs do not live any longer then that. Most of the dogs are only going to live to be about 11 to 13. When dealing with these kinds of dogs the leading cause of death is usually dog health - cancer and sometimes stroke. There was one report that one of these dogs (back in 1910) lived to be 29 years old. This would be the oldest Australian dog to have ever lived. Of course this report has not been verified yet.
