Basenjis
If you have never heard of a Basenji, then you will be amazed to know that it is actually a breed of African hunting dogs. In the United States, a lot of people tend to put it in the group of sight hounds. In fact, the American Kennel Club, as well as the United Kingdom Kennel Club as part of dog organizations, classify it as a hound. The funny thing about this dog is it's bark. The Basenji does not really bark, but yodels as far as dog barking is concerned. This has to do with the very unusually shaped larynx that the dog has. In fact, around the world the Basenji dogs have been given the nickname the Voiceless dogs. This is one of the only dogs in the world that does not bark. However, the amazing thing about this dog is that it has an unbelievable talent at being able to mimic sounds that it hears. Thus, if you have purchased Basenji puppies for sale and raise them around barking dogs, then it would learn to bark as well. This is a trait that no other dog has.
The personalities of Basenjis are very funny as well. Their traits are linked more to cats than dogs. A lot of people tend to jokingly say that this is a dog that wishes it was a cat, may sound like dog joke but is true. If one of these dogs is raised with a cat it will follow the cat around like the leader, and do whatever the cat does. It will lay where the cat lays, and will try and go wherever the cat goes. However, due to their size, a lot of times they will not fit where cats are going. So if they have been brought up with cats, they will tend to make a "meowing" sound until the cat comes back to it. This is one of the few dogs that a cat will actually lay on top of, and the dog will sit there until the cat wakes up. Sometimes the dog will not even come when called so that it does not wake the cat up from its cat nap. It's a dog that almost looks like it worships cats.
Whenever looking at Basenji for sale, you will notice that they are very alert dogs. They are also very demanding of you. They want you to love on them a lot. However, much like a cat, this is a dog that usually will not come when called. It is very intelligent (much like a cat), but does not respond well to training at all due to it's very independent nature. This is another trait that many people see in cats. They do not like to be left alone or left in a house for too long by itself; it tends to get into a lot of trouble. Of course, if the dog is left with a cat (who would have guessed), it behaves its self. The Basenjis hate wet weather (just like a cat) and will not go outside in the rain. This dog is also able to climb much like a cat as well. Here is the kicker, though. These dogs will also clean themselves just like a cat!
If you are thinking about getting a Basenji, however, you may want to think again. This is a very rare dog (or catdog; whatever you want to call it). In fact, in the United Kingdom, at last count there were only 74 of them left.
