Bassatrievers
A bassatriever is what you get when you cross a basset hound and a golden retriever. Both of these dogs have a sweet personality and both are great to have as pets. They are especially great around children because of their gentle nature.
Bassatrievers are now actually a type of hybrid which can be registered with the American Hybrid Canine Club. Bassatriever puppies are a fairly new breed of dog that happened accidentally when one woman’s golden retriever managed to get to her basset hound while she was in heat. The result was a set of beautiful golden puppies with short legs, floppy ears, and a wonderful personality.
Bassets are short legged dogs with a long body and big, floppy ears. They also have very large feet for their height. They have a great personality and tend to howl much of the time rather than bark. Their head tends to be large and the skin fits loosely. Their long ears have a velvety feel and hang close to the ground. Usually their color is white with tawny colored spots but there is actually no breed standard for coat color. Because of their short legs and long body they tend to look clumsy when they walk or run. They have short hair so shedding is a problem if kept indoors. They tend to gain weight easily so it is best to not overfeed them so be vareful if you have bought a Bassatriever for sale.
The golden retriever is a taller dog with beautiful long, golden hair. They tend to be hunters and often accompany their owner on hunting trips. They also like to just get out and run. They require a lot of space to get their exercise and do best when kept on a farm. Their coat is designed to be waterproof since they possess a dense undercoat that resists water. They are highly intelligent and are easy to train. Their gait is flowing and graceful and they love to retrieve items from the water. Because of their long coat they do not shed as much as the basset hound.
When these two breeds are combined you will get a very intelligent dog that is gentle and sweet in nature. Because the hybrid breed is so new there is not any way of currently telling how the bassatriever puppies will look like. Sometimes they will simply look like either the basset hound or the golden retriever but at other times they will have a combination of both.
When you look for bassatriever puppies for sale you will realise some have a golden color with a shorter body and legs than a golden retriever. Because the golden retriever does not shed the chances are good that the bassatriever puppies will have a coat that contains a high luster and sheds much less than the pure bred basset. Most of the puppies will exhibit some of the loose skin that is normally found in the basset but some of them will outgrow this as they become adults. The bassatriever does not appear to be as clumsy when walking as the basset. They are fiercely loyal to their family and will make a great pet for small children.
