The first Bloodhound, according to legend, was said to be bred back in 1000 AD by monks. Either way, if the legend is true, the Bloodhound was more than likely started in France. The Bloodhound was bred to be an excellent tracking dog, and it does that just fine. In fact, they say that as a scent hound the Bloodhound is better than all other hounds in its class. This includes the English Foxhound and the Swiss Jura Hound. The Bloodhound was bred to be able to track humans. People say that a Bloodhound can pick up old scents for people. This means that they can pick up scents that are hours, and sometimes even days, old. They can also follow scents for a very long distance.
