Cairn Terriers
One of the oldest terrier breeds to date would have to be the Cairn Terrier breeds. This is one of the most famous terrier breeds because of some of the movies that it has been in. If you have ever seen the movie The Wizard of Oz, then you know what a Cairn Terrier is. Toto, the dog from the movie was a Cairn Terrier. However, finding a Cairn Terrier for sale or Carin Terrier puppies for sale like Toto would be hard to do. That is because these dogs do not like to snuggle like Toto did, and trying to keep one of these dogs in a bike basket would be an all day job in itself. That is why a lot of people tend to get upset with this dog. They need to understand that this is actually a working dog more than a family dog. Of course, they are being used more and more as family dogs every day.
This is a breed that got started in the Scottish Highlands and is a working hunting dog. They were used for hunting prey that burrowed underground. Although this breed has been around almost forever, it was not until about 1909 that people started to pay attention to it. That is when it was brought to official shows in the United Kingdom. When they first came out, they were called the Short Haired Skye Terrier. However, people felt that it caused a lot of problems, and their name was changed to the Cairn Terrier.
Although these dogs may not like to snuggle, they are very loyal to you and also very intelligent. They are very lively, and they like to work, not so much play. On top of all this, they are very hard to train to do anything except hunt. That is because they are very stubborn dogs and very strong willed as well. They love to dig, whether they are hunting or not. This is a dog that is never going to really learn how to live at home. They are always going to have to be trained over and over again. This is one of the most tiresome breeds ever made. Do keep in mind that these dogs are so headstrong that they have to be walked on a leash. If they pick up the smell of a rabbit, no dog training in the world is going to stop them from running away.
This dog does have its fair share of problems, however. One of the most common things that goes wrong with Carin Terriers is Cataracts. This is something that people say can start forming early in their lives. What makes it even worse is that you can not even look for it when they are Carin Terrier puppies. You have to wait for the Cataracts to start forming before you can do anything. Then the only way to get rid of the cataracts is to remove it from the eye by removing the film from the top of the eye. This is a loving dog, but not loving in the way that people want their dogs to be. However, it is still a great dog to have in your family.
