Chow Chows

If you want a very puffy dog, then you may want to look into getting a Chow Chow. This is a dog that actually got started in China. In China, the name for Chow Chows is Songshi Quan, which really means puffy lion dog. It is believed that Chow Chows are actually one of the models that started the Foo dog, which is the stone guardians that are found outside Buddhist temples and palaces. You may know them better as the stone guardians that are standing in front of a lot of Chinese food take out spots. Chow Chow puppies, funny enough, are just as puffy small as they are when they grow up. The Chow Chow puppies really kind of look like a big ball of walking fur, very cute.

The Chow Chow may have use to be used to guard things like a Buddhist temple, but today they are mostly just used as a companion dog, like most other dogs today. The only problem that people have with the Chow Chow is that they have a great sense of proprietorship over their master's homes. Thus, they do not get along with strangers when they approach the yard. This is not a dog that is timid at all. In fact, the Chow Chow shows a lot of aggression. The people who take care of Chow Chows have to be just as willful and, of course, stubborn as the dog itself. If not, the Chow Chow will see this, and they will take over the household and become very bossy. If you are going to have two Chow Chows (which could be a big handful), you better get ones of opposite sex. If you get to Chow Chows of the same sex you are going to end up with two big dogs trying to control the other.

Despite what it sounds like, if you want a loyal dog you should consider buying the Chow Chow for sale or the Chow Chow puppies for sale as it is a very loyal dog to their family. Most of the time they grow a very tight bond with their masters. So much of a tight bond that they do not like their masters spending time with anyone except them. Please keep in mind as well that Chow Chows like to show affection, but only with the very few people that it forms a bond with. If you have a bond with the Chow Chow, it will be the most loving dog in the world. You could do anything to it, and it will stay sweet to you. However, any visitors you get should not try and show physical attention to the Chow Chow. The Chow Chow takes some time to accept people as members of its "pack." So running up and trying to love on the dog could make you draw back a nasty bite.

The Chow Chows can be trained to like visitors. However, they will never get over the fact that it takes time to get to know people. So you can train them to allow people to come over without them attacking, but you still have to tell your visitors to go easy on the dog for the first few visits. Over time the Chow Chow will warm up to them. Usually when they warm up to a person they will come and sit beside that person with their backs to them; this is a sign of trust. Before they trust the person, they sit facing them, so they can watch their every move.
