Whenever you hear the name English Foxhound, you may think of a dog that hunts. Well, if you do, then you are right. The English Foxhound is a type of dog that hunts foxes by scent. These dogs are pretty amazing, but can be hard to find at times. When you do find some English Foxhound puppies for sale or English Foxhounds for sale to buy, you are going to notice that they cost a lot of money. This just seems to be the way things are when trying to buy purebred dogs. Since this is a member of the scent hound family, they do not look up a lot whenever they are hunting. Normally they move fast, and they keep their head down so that they can smell. The only way that you are able to follow this dog is by it letting out a deep howl so that you can keep up with it. One way to keep up with this dog is on horseback. That is why a lot of people use to hunt foxes on horseback with their hounds running on the ground.
You may not know this, but hunting foxes is hard work. English Foxhounds usually live to be about 10 to 13 years of age. However, they stop hunting foxes after about 6 or 7 years. That is because it becomes to demanding on their bodies. Back in the day, the British hunters would just put the dogs down after 6 years. That is because they only viewed this dog as a hunting dog. Once it could not hunt anymore, it was time to get a new one, and the old one was of new use anymore. Nowadays, people who still use this dog for hunting also see that these dogs are very gentle and get along with other pets and other children. So these dogs make great family dogs and a perfect dog to keep around, long after it stops catching foxes. It gets along with pretty much every animal and person. It loves children, and gets along with other breeds of dogs and even horses. Bigger animals do not scare this dog. This is a very tolerant breed and will do anything to make people like it.
This is a dog that can run all day long if you let it. People like this about the English Foxhounds , because it shows that they can handle whatever your life throws at them. The English Foxhound puppies are cute and are a child favorite. Just remember that an English Foxhound is a good dog to keep around even if you are not going to be using it for hunting anymore. They love to be part of your family and will do anything to keep it that way. Just remember, this is a dog that trusts you with its life. That is why hunters had no problem putting these dogs down. These dogs would never expect you to do anything that would hurt it. So they would go with you willingly anywhere. It's great that hunters no longer do that to these great dogs.
