The breed gets it's name from the city of Leonberg in South West Germany. This is a dog that is very loving, although it does not look like it. They are very happy just living in a small house with a small backyard. They may be big, but it does not take much to please them. When these dogs sleep, they sleep curled up in a ball. You see that a lot in bigger dogs, because their heart is having to work a lot harder to pump blood through theire body.

Either way you go, the Leonberger is a dog that you will like to have in your family. They may not be the longest living dog that you have ever had, but while they are alive you will not find a sweeter dog. 7 years is a short lifespan for any living thing. This is a dog that is great with kids and loves to play with them. This dog is also attracted more to the female sex than the male sex. Thus, if it is given the choice, it will choose to be loved on by a female over a male. However, this dog is not too choosy when it comes to getting some loving, and it will take what it can get when it can get it.
