Lhasa Apsos
There are a lot of sporting dogs out there, but the Lhasa Apso is not one of them. This is a dog that got started in Tibet and was made to, pretty much, be a guard dog. It was used to alert people that someone may be intruding into one of the monasteries. It is for this reason why the Lhasa Apsos make great watch dogs. They are, pretty much, fearless dogs that will not back down to anything. However, keep in mind that they are not very big dogs, so they are not attack dogs. They are used as watch dogs, and that is pretty much it. Their dog barking is also different from most dogs. In fact, a lot of people call them the signing dogs. Their bark does make them sound bigger than what they are. They have great hearing, and they have a great sense of smell as well.
Like a lot of other small dogs, the Lhasa Apsos can have small explosive amounts of energy that tend to go away very quickly. However, even while sleeping they have their hearing turned on. Thus, they can sleep in your house and still be on the lookout. They have a lot of very unique personality traits that make them very lovable and easy to get along with. They do form a pretty close bond with their masters and tend to hate other animals that are around their masters. This goes back to them being a watch dog. Either way, they are going to be there for you when you need them, and they will never, and that means never, back down. Even if they are out sized or out numbered.
One cool thing if you have purchased Lhasa Apsos for sale or Lhasa Apso puppies for sale is that they tend to live a long life. If you give them lots of baths and do a great job keeping up with cutting and dog grooming, then they stay very healthy. If you do not, their hair tends to get too long, and it can cause problems for them. This breed lives so long that a lot of them can live into their mid 20's if you take care of them. Just be sure to not overfeed them, and do not give them people food as dog diet. One of the worst things that you can do for any dog is to get them people food. That is because their bodies are set up a lot differently than ours. If you give them people food, you are doing damage to their inside. Dogs do not know how to say no to people food, and that is why we have to do it for them.
These dogs can do good with kids if they are brought up with them. This is something that you are going to have to start with them when they are still Lhasa Apso puppies. When they are small they tend to be very active, but it does die down a bit as they get older, as it does with most dogs. This is a great family dog, as well as a great watch dog. That is a great combo to have in any dog.
