There are a lot of big breeds of dogs out there, but one of the bigger ones is the Newfoundland. The Newfoundlands are usually large black dogs that use to be used as a type of working dog. However, because of their sweet nature, they are mostly used as pet dogs today. Newfoundland puppies grow up loving the water, and for some reason they have a great natural water rescue habit. Of course, that is something we will talk about a bit later. Over all these dogs are know for there sweet temperament and their loyalty to their masters, which is a must for any dog.

This is because of the long fur coats that they have. They tend to get all tangled up in their selves. However, this is the only trouble this dog is going to give you. This is because they are so big and have such a deep bark, but they would not hurt a fly. They can be trained as watch dogs, but do not make great guard dogs. Although why they want to help people is unknown, the reason why they are good swimmers is not. They are such good swimmers, because this is one of the only dogs that actually has webbed feet. The only problem with getting these dogs is the few problems that they have with their health. Most of the problems that they have are due to their size. A lot of them are prone to having hip dysplasia, as well as elbow dysplasia. One defect that runs in a lot of Newfoundland puppies is the formation of calculi stones in the bladder. Last, but not least, is the many heart defects the Newfoundland dogs are born with. Most of these defects have to do with defective heart valves, believed to be linked back, once again, to their massive size. These heart defects can cause death at a very early age.
