The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, or Toller, has a life expectancy of 13 to 16 years.

Origin
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever originated in Canada in the early 19th century and is considered to be one of only four breeds native to the country. As the name suggests, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was developed to lure and retrieve ducks. The breed’s ancestry is believed to include the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Brittany Spaniel and farm collie.

Size
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever weighs 45 to 52 pounds and measures 17 to 21 inches.

Grooming Needs
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever has a medium-length double coat that sheds lightly most of the year, but more heavily with the change of seasons in the spring and fall. The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever can be brushed once a week normally, but may require more frequent brushing during their heavier shedding periods. The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever just needs a bath when dirty as over bathing can dry out their skin.

Like all dogs, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever also needs basic grooming. Brush their teeth, clean their ears and trim their nails on a regular basis.
