Dog Art and Artists

You can always tell when youve entered the home or office of a true dog lover, even before youve seen (or heard) the pets. If in a home, leashes and dog toys placed throughout the house are of course good clues.  Another indicator is the presence of dog art.  If you see paintings, sculptures, magnets and doggy photographs strewn through out the house or cubicle of your coworker, you can be sure that youre in the presence of a true dog enthusiast.

Dog art is a great way to bring color into your house or workspace, and it can be found in many different forms. You can find beautiful images of dogs on just about anything from dishes, to blankets, to pillows, to pottery.  Dog art is a great way to express your personality and pay homage to your pet.  It can brighten up your day during long work hours, and be a great conversation piece when entertaining friends.

Dog Artists

If youd like your artwork to have a personal touch, many artists will create custom portraits for you.  An example that can be found on the web is pastelportraits.com.  The artist, Julia Morton, creates beautiful, realistic portraits of your pet, based on photographs.  The turnaround time is about three weeks and she is based out of British Columbia, Canada.  If youd like to find something in your area, visit your favorite search engine and use Ådog portraits as your keywords.

If youre interested in dog art but dont have a favorite artist, try visiting ebay.com.  Ebay is a great resource for dog (and puppy) art offering pages of unique pieces for sale, often at very reasonable prices.  Ebay is a great place to discover hidden gems and rare paintings, and because it works like an auction, you only pay as much as you want to pay.

Another great resource for discovering dog artists is Moira McLaughlins blog, located at dreamdogsart.typepad.com. She features dog art from around the world and across the centuries.  Moira also provides ideas for dog-themed gifts, and features a large selection of dog books.  An artist herself, Moira also makes her own doggie-themed pieces, available for sale on her blog.

Perhaps youd really like to give your dog art a personal touch, by creating it yourself.  Many instruction books have been written on this very topic just pay a visit to your local library or book shop and ask for a book about drawing animals.  If youd like to take it a step further, try signing up for art classes.  With a little patience and a good teacher, youd be surprised at how quickly you can learn!

 Puppy Art

A common (and practical) way to display puppy artwork in your home is through the use of a calendar.  Puppy calendars make great gifts and, at the end of they year, you can frame and keep your favorite images.  Another great resource for puppy art is allposters.com. They have hundreds of posters available for sale, and they usually ship within 24 hours of purchasing. Allposters.com is a great way to discover talent, too, because in most cases, the name of the artist is featured alongside the poster.

There is no shortage of dog art, so get out there, enjoy the search, and always display your dog art proudly!
