Dog Cages

Dog cages can be a useful aid, whether you are transporting your dog or housebreaking them.  There are many different types of dog cages to choose from, so let's have a look!

A simple dog cage allows you to transport your dog in a vehicle or vehicle bed, to keep them safe at night, or to keep them from roving the house when you don't want them to.  Wire dog cages can be very strong, and allow your dog a great deal of visibility so that they feel less like they are trapped.  However, a wire cage can be more difficult to clean than a plastic dog crate, and sometimes the extra visibility can make a dog feel less secure than a less-exposed plastic dog crate.

One advantage of wire dog cages are that many models can be broken down into pieces for easy storage.  Some models also come with movable dividers, which make it easy to teach your dog the basics of being housebroken.

Plastic or other non-metal dog cages are often referred to as dog crates.  Dog crates can provide an additional sense of security for a dog when they are being transported or house trained, and if a dog is outdoors they can provide better shelter than an open wire dog cage.  Plastic dog crates tend to be easier to clean than wire dog cages, and less cage-like for those who dislike the stark appearance of a wire dog cage.  Some dog crates are even made out of stylish wood or wicker, becoming more a piece of furniture than a dog crate.  However, these fancier dog crates tend to be less portable and functional than wire dog cages and plastic dog crates. these crates make great dog gifts.

Certain kinds of dog cages and dog crates are approved for airline travel, whether your dog is traveling down below or with you in the cabin.  Consult your airline for information on what kind of carriers they recommend.

All in all, there are all kinds of dog cages and dog crates for all kinds of dogs! Whether you need something rugged and portable or warm and cozy for dog transport, there's a product that's right for you and your dog.
