Dog Clothing
When it comes to dog clothing, there are generally two schools of thought to consider: those who think it is adorable, and those who think it is annoying. Most dog owners, agree, however, that it can be extremely cute and fun if done properly.
Since you love your dog, it is important that you know whether or not dog clothing is a good idea for your dog. Dogs have fur coats, so they do not need to wear clothes the way that people do. When it is hot outside, no dogs need any clothing at all. Depending on the temperature, dog clothing can even be dangerous. Dog clothing is almost never recommended for pugs or other dogs with short snouts, as it can harm their ability to breathe. When it's cold outside, very few dogs need protective clothing to keep warm, but it isn't harmful for most dog breeds as long as it isn't overdone. If you're not sure what kind of dog clothing is best for your dog, check with your veterinarian.
If dog clothing is right for your dog, there are many great styles and colors available. Your local pet store likely has quite the selection, and the Internet is a place of infinite possibilities when shopping for your dog.
There is big dog clothing for bigger dogs and small dog clothing for smaller dogs. When purchasing big dog clothing, remember that your dog may think less is more. Perhaps when it is cold out, he or she would like a lightweight sweater, to help ease the burden of the cold. But put too much big dog clothing on, and your active friend will soon be overheated, and that isn't healthy. When it's hot outside, even if it looks good, most big dogs don't need big dog clothing, or dog clothing of any kind.
For small dog clothing, your dog may enjoy just a bit more. Smaller dogs tend to have less body fat, and can get colder than larger dogs. This is, of course, not always the case. When you buy small dog clothing, keep your dog in mind. If your dog is extremely active, even in the cold, then don't buy very heavy small dog clothing. In hotter temperatures, small dogs do not require small dog clothing, and it may even be detrimental to their health.
