Dog Collars

Your dog needs a dog collar, so it is important to learn about what is best.  As with nearly everything for dogs, there is a great variety of dog collars.

If your dog is already trained, and responds to your verbal and physical signals effortlessly, then your dog just needs a basic dog collar.  A plain dog collar is fine, as long as it is easily attachable to a leash.  Many dogs and their owners prefer leather dog collars.  Leather dog collars come in every width and length, so they're great for large dogs and small dogs alike.  There is also a huge color selection for leather dog collars, so your dog can have a dog collar in his or her favorite color.  One of the most desirable attributes of leather dog collars are the embellishments that are available.  Leather dog collars can have shiny glitter, or gemstones, or spikes, or studs, or even fancier designs, like skulls or custom letters to spell out your dog's name.  The possibilities for leather dog collars are truly endless and they make for wonderful dog gifts.

If your dog is a puppy or is not properly trained, then you ought to look into dog training collars.  Dog training collars are great for dogs who need to train up a bit more before getting a regular dog collar.  As always, there is a variety of dog training collars available.  One popular type of dog training collars are shock collars.  These collars deliver a small electric shock to your dog when they cross an invisible fence, or when they bark.  Veterinarians strongly warn against shock collars, and say they should only be used to keep large dogs in a yard, to prevent escape.  It is inadvisable to use shock collars for training, and experts agree, it's best to obtain other kinds of dog training collars.  Many owners and their dogs simply use a dog harness as a dog training collar, and research proper training techniques.

Remember, dogs and puppies are smart and special, and you should choose the dog collar that is best for your friend and pet.
