Dog Houses
If your dog spends any significant amount of time outside, dog houses are a necessity. They not only provide your dog with shelter from the elements and a sense of security, but they can be stylish and give your dog a sense of ownership as well. Dog cages are not appropriate shelter for a puppy or a dog.
Dog houses are available for large dogs, as are small dog houses for smaller breeds. Some dogs prefer small dog houses, because they provide a cozy feeling and a sense of security. Other dogs prefer to have space, so larger dog houses may be ideal. If you have more than one dog, and they like to share quarters, larger dog houses are usually best.
Don't forget that you can also build your own dog house! Building your own dog house allows you to get creative and make something that your dog will really enjoy. You can be thrifty or extravagant, with a simple dry dog house or a lofty dog mansion with carpets and a tower! But if building a dog house sounds a bit too difficult, there are many warm, dry, and stylish pre-built dog houses to choose from.
Veterinarians agree that dogs stay healthier and are more comfortable if they are inside during extreme temperatures. However, every dog, family, and situation is unique. If your dog must stay outside during colder temperatures, consider investing in heated dog houses. Heated dog houses provide your dog with a place to stay that is warm and comfortable. Your dog will appreciate the gesture on your part, and will be more likely to avoid illnesses that occur when dogs are kept outside in cold climates, which can lead to further dog diseases.
Consult with your veterinarian before making a choice about keeping your dog outside for all or most of the day and night. Dogs like to be a part of the family, so they should live in the house like everyone else. Dog houses are best used a comfortable, outdoor getaway for your pet, not as permanent quarters.
