Dog Jokes

Who'd ever think there's such a thing as dog humor. Then again, doesn't your pet act in a strange manner at times, or does something funny that makes you laugh? Well, that's some kind of dog humor, whichever way you look at it. The question remains, is your dog aware that he or she is being funny? It's quite possible, you wouldn't be able to answer that. If you could, there's a tougher question that you'd need to answer - do dogs detect humor in some things.

With millions of dogs in millions of homes, chances are, you'll have a million different answers to these questions, in reply. The funny thing is, probably, they'll all be right. For several decades, owners have had an untold number of experiences with the behavior and antics of their pets that they've found funny. Dog experts would of course, interpret this funny behavior as unintentional. In most cases, if not all, the behavior may be repeated time and again in response to the positive reaction the pet receives. Taking this into account, it would be difficult to say that dogs have a sense of humor, but may be acting from an instinct deep within them. It is the many funny experiences with dogs that have led to countless dog jokes. However, first let's try and understand the types of behavior and antics that we could, rightly or wrongly, interpret as dog humor.

One basic type that's common to many pet dogs is physical humor which one can liken to the 'slapstick' acts of a comedian. In fact, comedian Steven Wright, aptly states, that funny behavior, at the physical level, is when a dog acts in a manner that you could call goofy, or when little dog tricks are played on you. As his surname suggests, Wright could be right.

Another type of dog humor is psychological humor. This level of humor may be experienced with dogs that are known to be really intelligent. There are several anecdotal stories which describe psychological dog humor as when a pet enjoys surprising its owner or other family members. Again, it wouldn't be difficult to assert that such dogs have the mental capability to understand humor, if they already understand the act of play. Of course, dogs do know the difference between anything more serious and play, One example to illustrate this is when a dog growls, yaps or barks vigorously when playing with its owner and then breaks to lick him or her, as if to say "Hey, this is only a game".

Finally, one undeniable fact is that if dogs have personalities, they would surely have a sense of humor, as one of the other abstract features of their personalities. After all, we cannot consider it a mechanical act when a dog plays or teases us. One would therefore, conclude that teasing should also be construed as a form of humor. Thanks to the funny behavior of our pets, because if they acted otherwise, we wouldn't have enjoyed dog jokes or, for that matter, humorous dog jokes.
