Transporting animal pets needs much more professional planning than you'd think. As dogs are considered loving members of the family they deserve just as much care as humans would when moving home. Today, dog transport is a much sought after service, in view of the fact that every third home owns one kind of pet or another and the high frequency of people moving home or vacationing with their pets. Here's some useful information on how to transport a dog.

Start by gathering all information relevant to dog transport. This will include 1) Ascertaining the specific laws and regulations governing transportation of animal pets across state and international borders. 2) The type of transport dog crates permitted by land, sea and air transportation companies. 3) The vaccinations and health certification requirements of state or destination countries. Hire a professional pet transporter. There are several companies specializing in dog transport on the internet. These companies have the necessary skills and experience in handling dogs. Moreover, they will also organize all the required documentation and fulfill other relevant formalities. As these companies are in the know of how to transport a dog, it will save you a lot of time and stress. However, if you are a U.S. citizen, ensure that the company you select is licensed by the U.S.D.A. Select suitable transport dog crates. This is probably the most important part of dog transport.

There are three types of transport dog crates available, each of varied size for the comfort and safety of dogs - 1) Plastic Crates - These are meant for small dogs and are light, washable and easily ventilated. 2) Wooden Crates - Ideal for larger dogs and also easy to ventilate and maintain. 3) Metal Crates - Recommended for longer distances, but heavy and hand to ventilate. Whatever type of crate you choose, make sure that it is safe and comfortable i.e., it must enable your dog to sit, lie or stand up without hindrance. Do it yourself, dog transport. It is relatively easy to transport your pet yourself. If you are moving home across state borders, or intend to have your dog with you on vacation, here are a few tips to help you. 1) Consult a veterinarian, who'll conduct a physical examination of your pet and administer the necessary vaccinations. 2) Purchase the most suitable transport dog crate. 3) Get a referral list of veterinarians en route to your destination, just in case you need one. 4) Carry enough medication for your pet if needed. 5) You may also purchase a small portable kennel if your pet is used to one. They usually are. dog transport may not be much fun to you, and more so, for your pet.

With some careful planning however, you can indeed, make it pleasurable, for both. Using a  dog harness helps with moving the dog effortlessly between locations when he or she is not in the kennel or crate. Just keep in mind that your focus should be on the SAFETY and COMFORT of your dog. After all, you'll want a wagging tail in appreciation rather than growls, howls or whining at the final destination.
