Dog Types and Functions

It is a difficult proposition to write about types of dog breed because there are over 150 such dog breeds. To simply list them seems a bad idea as you could just as easily go to a search engine and obtain these details. To write something about all the dog types would also be quite a Herculean task as it would mean having to describe each one of these 150+ breeds. So probably the most useful way would be to provide the broad categories. All dog type would fall under these categories and the readers would get some idea of what they represent.

The first of the dog types that we will deal with is the small dog. These cover many types of dog breeds starting with the Terriers and the Spaniels and covering the Pekingese and Pomeranian. Small seems to be beautiful these days and a large number of people are opting for small dogs in preference to the larger varieties and it is not hard to figure out why. It makes practical sense to buy a small dog because all said and done, they cost less. They eat less and veterinary costs are less for small dogs than for big ones. Requirements for dogs such as dog crates and dog collars are all priced according to their sizes and obviously such items come cheaper when they are required for dogs which are smaller. Very few people live in huge houses these days and when choosing Dog Types they would like to own, such people naturally opt for smaller dogs. These dogs are easier to manage as well. When they have to be groomed, a small table top is all that is needed to stand them up and a bath can even be managed in the kitchen sink.

While talking of practicality, let us talk about the second dog type we have categorized as child friendly dogs. The Breeds we have covered here are the various types of Terriers, the Pugs and Saint Bernards, all of whom are extremely amiable dogs. You will not have to worry about lawsuits being brought against you by parents of children your dog might have bitten or caused hurt to. And why children alone? Even friends and neighbors will not worry about visiting you as they would if the dog you possessed had a habit of sinking his teeth into various parts of the visitors' anatomy.

While reviewing dog types, we can now look at a category which is fast becoming popular. Dogs for those looking for a companion. They may be widows or widowers, they may be retired folks, or those who are not so sporty and don't fancy too much physical exercise. For them we have evolved a category which includes dog types such as the Boston Terrier, the Fox Terrier and the Miniature Poodle. These dogs require very little exercise and love spending time with their owners so they are ideal for the retired and aging category of owners. Finally we have evolved a category which we feel is ideal for the sickly. This consists of the types of dog which are hairless. Dogs which fall under this category are the Lakeland Terriers, the Fox Terriers and the Toy Poodles. Because of their lack of hair, they have non-shedding coats and unhealthy people are less likely to get allergic reactions from these dog types.

We must admit this was an unusual categorization that we worked out but, given the 150+ dog types, we felt this was the most practical way of telling our readers of the various possibilities they could choose from.
