Puppy Adoption

There are several thrilling experiences in life, but few would compare with Puppy Adoption. The general trend among people wishing to adopt canines is to go in for a puppy, rather than an adult dog. And who could blame them, would you? Probably not, because puppies are some of the cutest, cuddly pets that one could adopt. If you are thinking of Adopting a Puppy, there are some questions you may ask - "From where?" "What puppy?" "How?"

Where you can adopt a puppy

Fortunately, people have the benefit to adopt their pet puppy from several places, such as, dog shelters, dog rescue organizations, Puppy Rescue Adoption and dog breeding centers, etc. The point to note is that dog shelters work closely with rescue groups. This is because the shelters find it hard to place their puppies and dogs in homes, apart from space limitations. This is where rescue groups can help. They treat puppies and dogs and also find suitable new homes for them. For Puppy Adoption, contact such centers, instead of buying one from pet shops or puppy mills. One big advantage of doing this is that you will have a healthier, well-groomed puppy and in your own way, make it harder for puppy mills to stay in business. Puppies bought from pet shops are usually unhealthy and undisciplined because they originate from puppy mills.

What puppy you may adopt

This is one aspect of puppy adoption that you may find tricky. After all, puppies come in many different shapes, sizes, coats and colors, apart from other instinctive traits. Moreover, you'll find one puppy cuter than the next puppy, and this can confuse you. Adopting a Puppy isn't really difficult but there are some important points to keep in mind. Puppies may be little today but full-grown adults tomorrow therefore, first decide what breed you would prefer. Another question to answer - does the puppy breed you choose fit your lifestyle and that of your family? You'll need answers because some puppies will eventually be large in size when full-grown, e.g., Labradors, Retrievers, Boxers, German Shepherds, etc. They may also need a larger space at your home. Alternatively, some breeds fall under the 'small dog' category on reaching adulthood e.g., Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Poodles, Pugs, etc. Well, going by the saying - 'Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder' - the choice of pup you wish to adopt, is purely yours.

How to adopt a puppy

Whether you adopt a puppy from a dog shelter or a Puppy Rescue Adoption center, most of them have their own set of rules for dog adoption. Adopting a Puppy is relatively easy, however, such centers have procedures that are to be strictly adhered to. These include, providing a veterinary source they can later check with, holding a telephonic or personal interview and lastly, a home visit. Several shelters and rescue centers may also allow you to keep the puppy for a temporary period, in order to determine whether it receives good care, is treated well and more so, to decide whether it is compatible with the conditions and people in its home of adoption.

Well, you've heard this before - each puppy is more adorable and cuter than the next, - therefore, do pay heed to this concluding piece of advice. Before you sign up to adopt a puppy, make sure your final choice is based on a logical rather than an emotional decision.
