Seeing eye dogs are here to make some peoples' lives easier. The truth of the matter is, these dogs are trained from when they are very young to help people when they get older. So do these seeing eye dogs only help the blind? Many people tend to think that a seeing eye dog is only here to help the blind, however, that is not true. These seeing eye dogs are also there to help people that may just have a vision impairment. A lot of people that have a seeing eye dog are not completely blind, but a seeing eye dog can help them get around better. A lot of people are blown away by the fact that seeing eye dogs are so smart. That is why only the smartest breeds of dogs are fit for seeing eye dog training. Although just about any breed can be trained to do this job, it is a lot easier to train certain dogs to do it.
So what dogs are best for seeing eye dog training? Really, the best dogs are the ones that are known for being smart and loving. It is not only important for these seeing eye dogs to be smart, but they have to care for their masters more than what a normal dog would. All dogs have a love that is grand for their owner, but a seeing eye dog has to be able to understand that their master needs them. It is said that a seeing eye dog can sense that there is something wrong with their owner. They also say that these dogs are aware that they are helping, and they like to do so. Just like a search and rescue dog, these dogs just love to help people. Not all animals are like that, but I guess that is why they call dogs a man's best friend!
Seeing eye dog training is not something that is easy for these dogs. They have to be able to lead people around and avoid things that could hurt them. However, the only thing is, a dog can not tell you how to get somewhere. You can not ask the dog how to get to the store and have it lead the way. You must already know where you are going, and the dog is going to help you get there safely. In fact, most people that have a seeing eye dog actually have to go through training as well to understand how to read what the dog is trying to tell them. When people think about seeing eye dog training, they think of the training that the dog goes through. However, people forget that you have to be trained as well to understand what the dog is trying to say to you. To do that, you have to know what the dog has been trained to do. The only slight problem people have with seeing eye dogs is that they are color blind. Thus, they can not read certain things, like traffic lights. This is why the dogs are trained to look for cars and not trained to look at the traffic lights. Although, if the dogs could tell colors, many people think that the dogs could learn what means stop and what means go.
