The Shetland Sheepdog is a very outgoing dog and a great companion dog as well. They are very loyal to their family, and they will never leave your side no matter what. They are lively both indoors and out, however, since they are intelligent, they do know what they can and can not do inside the house. They are very trainable, and you should have no problems getting the dog to do what you want it to do. They will obey pretty much anything that you tell them, and they are very affectionate dogs as well. Of course, they show more affection to whoever they feel is the leader of the household, but they will show affection to everyone else as well. They are very friendly dogs to even people that they do not know. They are a dog that is very likely to greet someone that they meet out on the street. This does mean that the Shetland Sheepdog does not make the world's best guard dog, but they can be trained to do so.
