History of the Bouvier Des Flandres
With the exception of the Bouvier des Ardennes, this breed is the sole survivor of the once-wide variety of Belgian Bouviers, or cattle dogs. May have developed from Griffons and the old-type Beauceron. Cattle-driving, cart-pulling farm dog. During WWI the French army used the Bouvier in its medical corps, but numbers declined drastically shortly thereafter. Due to the intervention of the Belgian Kennel Club the breed was rescued from extinction.
