There are two types of Ardennes; the Swedish Ardennes which can be traced back to the times of Julius Caesar and the Belgium Ardennes which is the much heavier more modern type developed in the 19th century. The Ardennes is a great horse for rough or hilly areas of terrain. These horses possess an ability to pull extremely heavy loads.
