The Clydesdale developed from a tough and hardy native breed and replaced the use of the Shire in Scotland. Early Clydesdale's were referred to as a Clydesman's Horse. They were the first draft horse breed in Britain to have its own society. The Clydesdale possesses one of the most extravagant strides in the draft breeds. Today's the breed is smaller than the original Clydesdale and is increasing in numbers. Famously, they represented the Budweiser Clydesdale team.
