  Common Traits  
        Difficulty breathing when overly exerted. Heart and skin tumors. If poorly bred, they may have bone defects in the skull causing retardation. Usually give cesarean sections.  
     
  History  
        The Boston Terrier breed originated around 1870, when Robert C. Hooper of Boston purchased a dog known as Hooper's Judge, a cross between an English Bulldog and an English White Terrier. In 1893, the American Kennel Club (AKC) admitted the Boston Terrier breed and gave the club membership status, making it the first American breed to be recognized. It is one of a small number of breeds to have originated in the United States that it recognizes.

        Litter size: 3-4 Terrier in name only. Cross of the English Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Boxer, and extinct White terrier Originally weighed over 44 lbs., but was bred down to size. Considered to be a true American dog. * Rhett the Boston Terrier is the well-known mascot of Boston University. * The Boston Terrier is the mascot of Wofford College. * In 1979, the state legislature recognized the Boston Terrier as the state dog of Massachusetts. [1] * Toto is drawn as a Boston Terrier in several Oz Books.
