The Tennessee Walking Horse originated in the 19th century in Tennessee. The Tennessee Walker was originally designed to be a trotting horse, but with its unusual gait which it passes consistently onto its progeny, it became instead its now famous signature gait. This breed can travel approximately 8 mph over a long distance and an amazing 15 mph over a short distance.
