More About ...

Alaskan Malamutes

The Alaskan Malamute will weigh 75 to 85 pounds when full grown. This is a working breed, so it is very energetic. At least two walks a day are recommended. Their very thick double coat sheds heavily, so frequent thorough brushing is needed to keep them looking their best. Alaskan Malamute puppies are very intelligent and can be stubborn as a result. However, they usually grow into mellow and friendly adults. While fine for families with children, they do have strong instincts, so supervision may be necessary when around other, smaller pets.

While likely one of the most beautiful dogs in the animal kingdom- definitely one of the most prestigious, if you are a first time dog owner or weak with discipline then the Alaska Malamutes should not be considered as your choice pet. They are strong and they tend and enjoy taking charge of every situation. While the Alaskan sleigh dog is darn near perfect, do a fair bit of homework and be certain you can provide the environment that the pet needs.

Puppy hood is something that the Alaska Malamutes never seem to grow out of. The Alaska Malamutes are strong, independent and oh yes, intelligent. With a lifespan of ten to twelve years, the Alaskan Malamute puppy is energetic, friendly, stubborn and dominant and this continues throughout their life cycle. The puppies love trouble with a curious nature that often ends up with digging in the yard or running a bit out of their given area. They will need training from the start and for those owners that fail to keep control of the puppy, then they are in for a very trying ten to twelve years, as you will find as lovable as the pet is, they do need guidance.
