More About ...

Cocker Spaniels

An adult Cocker Spaniel will weigh 24 to 28 pounds when fully grown. They are very active, and thrive on vigorous daily walks or other exercise. Their silky, medium length coats require regular clipping as well as daily brushing. Cocker Spaniel puppies are intelligent and loyal. They do best with older, rather than younger, children. Early socialization will ensure harmony with other household pets. They may be difficult to housetrain. They are sometimes crossed with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to create the Cockalier, or the Poodle to yield the Cockapoo.

Cool Cocker Spaniel Fact:

One of the most popular breeds in the United States is the Cocker Spaniel.  There are some very special Cocker Spaniels which include President Richard Nixon’s Cocker Spaniel, Checkers

Cocker Spaniel Puppies for Sale: Your Best Friend

If you have decided to look for Cocker Spaniel Puppies for sale, you can be sure that you will be getting a pup that will soon grow into being your best friend. Cocker Spaniels are loyal and affectionate dogs that fit well into family life, even if there are other pets.

The Cocker Spaniel that we have grown to know and love originates from the English Cocker Spaniel, which has been dated as far back as the 14th century. American Cockers are smaller than their cousins from across the pond, both in body and their muzzles, but they are very similar in other ways. The AKC first recognized American Cocker Spaniels as a breed in its own right in 1873.

Cocker Spaniels derived their name from the woodcock, a game bird that these dogs were responsible for flushing and retrieving. They are intelligent dogs and learn easily, which is also a reason why they are often chosen as working dogs.

When you are looking for Cocker Spaniel puppies for sale, remember that they need adequate exercise because they are an active breed, as well as mental stimulation. You will also need to take care of your Cocker’s long silky coat, which can become tangled and matted if not brushed regularly. Some people choose to have their Cocker Spaniels trimmed to alleviate some of this problem. Another grooming issue that will need to be attended to is regular wiping underneath the eyes because they have a tendency to tear, which can mark the face.
