More About ...
Dachshunds
The average adult Dachshund will weigh between 11 to 32 pounds. They come in smooth, wirehaired and longhaired varieties as well as standard and miniature sizes. Daily to occasional brushing is recommended depending on the individual's coat type. Dachshunds are not very active. Short daily walks are encouraged to keep them in physical shape. Dachshund puppies are friendly and outgoing, though they can become irritable. They are not recommended for families with small children, but should do well with other small dogs and cats if socialized early.
Cool Dachshund Fact: |
The word dachs means Badger and the word hound means dogs. It is a German word and boils down to the hound being named after the prey it was bred to hunt |

Dachshund Puppies for Sale: Get Noticed with Your Weiner Dog
Small dogs are always popular, and the Dachshund is no exception. When you are looking at Dachshund puppies for sale, you will find that you will have the choice of three different types: the long-haired, the short-haired and the wire-haired. In Europe, three different sizes are recognized: the Standard, the Miniature and the Toy, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) doesn’t recognize the Toy.
By the time your Dachshund pup is a year old, he will be between 8 – 11 inches tall and weigh over 11 pounds if he is a Standard, or between 5 – 7 inches tall and weigh 11 pounds if he is a Miniature.
When you are looking at Dachshund puppies for sale, always remember that Dachshunds are prone to what is sometimes referred to as ‘Small Dog Syndrome’. This means that many owners allow their extra cute little pooches to get away with things that they would not dream of allowing bigger dogs to do, and which can have really negative consequences.
As long as your Dachshund thinks he is the boss, he will behave like it, and while it may seem to be endearing to see this little tiny guy being territorial and laying down the law, it can mean that they shouldn’t be around children. If they feel challenged, there is a good chance that they will bite.
Knowing this in advance can make a real difference to the nature of your Dachshund; if he knows that you are the boss, he will have an affectionate and loving nature.
