Last week we visited with one of the owners from a local pet sitting establishment in New Jersey. As we have been talking about off and on here at Animaroo we wanted to bring local stories home to our visitors all over the United States. Our focus started with Tom and Darlene Sawyer owners of Aunt Darlene’s Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Service, LLC.
In 2003 Darlene started Aunt Darlene’s Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Service. She worked from home and expanded her business one new customer at a time while Tom worked outside of the home as a Computer Tech for a large pharmaceutical’s company. As the economy turned Tom found himself looking for new work while Darlene continued to work her dog walking and pet sitting services. While Tom struggled through a harsh economy moving from one job to another and taking a serious pay cut Darlene’s uncle became ill. Now Tom and Darlene had to care for her uncle and the decision was made to sell their home and purchased a mother-daughter home together to make caring for her uncle easier. Life seamed to be working against every move Tom and Darlene took, and shortly after the care for her uncle began he passed away. Not only was the loss of her uncle devastating to them emotionally but financially they now had a home to care for that was twice what they could afford alone. With the economy still in a shambles their decision to take a leap of faith and go into business full time together was a gamble. Since their downstairs apartment was vacant they decided to give in-home dog boarding a try and it took off immediately. The day after Tom added boarding to their website they received their first boarding call and the rest is history. Now a little more than four years later they board up to six dogs in their own house and have three other independent contractors who board for them and receive a portion of the charge. All this in addition to having 5 dog walkers/pet sitters who walk dogs daily from Mon-Fri and pet sit for clients who prefer to leave their pets at home.
Today Tom and Darlene are strong hold in the pet sitting and dog walking industry as well as in home dog boarding in the New Jersey area. Both work full time together as an unstoppable team in the pet industry. Tom created and maintains their website at http://www.WeSitPets.com and also does the “hard work” playing with the dogs making sure they are active, napping with them from time to time when the puppies need a break and cleaning the facility. Darlene works on scheduling, bookkeeping, emails, phone calls, meeting and dealing with customer accounts. With all the hard work and dedication from both Tom and Darlene success is now their new reality.

Recently we had the pleasure of visiting with Lois Schwarz from Schwarz Kennel. Schwarz Kennel breeds the American Alsatian. We asked Lois why she started breeding the American Alsatian and her response was perfect. She said for many years people would tell her that they wanted a dog that didn’t bark, jump, dig, or whine. Bichon Frise are a wonderfully well-tempered breed of dog and one that makes a great addition to the home. The breed is a toy breed of dog and is a dream pet for children, it is cute and cuddly and truly lovable and a wonderful playmate, with both humans and other animals as well. This is a great dog for homes with allergies, as the dog does not molt.

Cocker Spaniels are an enthusiastic breed that are happy and friendly and are ideal for homes with children. However, they are not a good choice in an animal that is looking for a pet that makes a good watch dog, as that is something that they are not.

The breed possesses a strong will to please and obey their owners and is a wonderful companion to its owners. Socialization of the animal at a young age is necessary and without it the animal will become timid when they feel a threat.

For homes with cats, the Cocker Spaniel is a great choice. The animal will need to be a part of the family and requires daily activity. For homes with children, they are a tolerant dog of children of all ages, even the young.

For individuals that travel a lot, the breed is not a good choice, as they do not do well when left alone. Cocker Spaniel puppies for sale will require human interaction and contact or will not be a happy and healthy animal, as attention means a lot to the pet, and without it, owners will find that they have a dog that will bark and chew and may acquire other problematic behaviors.
