As pet owners often we forget that we are the most important person in the world to someone special in our life.Everyday we care for someone and often think there is no love in return.Children think of walking the dog as just another chore and we tire from cleaning the mess under the bed.We groan over the fact that our best friend has made our favorite pair of shoes his new chew toy. When it is all said and done and we take the time to ask our self why, we often forget the true reason. We forget the fact that no matter what the outside world brings us our pet is at the door excited that we have come home.Everyone else at home is busy watching television and playing video games and barely notices us walk in the door. But your best friend is jumping for joy as we arrive. He is smiling and dancing waiting anxiously to hear about your day.He is ready to run by your side as you take the trash out to the curb, and is always ready for nap time when you are.Your relationship with your dog is almost perfectly in sync with your life like you have always wanted someone to be.So the next time you have to crawl under the center of the bed in that hard to reach spot and grab you nicely chewed hundred dollar favorite pair of shoes, know that the untamed behavior is comes with untamed adoration as well.

Purebred or mixed-breed?

When you are choosing a dog, one of the questions that you have to answer is whether you want a purebred dog or a mixed-bred dog (a mutt). There are advantages to both, and both are right for different types of families and people.

Purebred dogs are popular. Many people like purebred dogs – either because they like the look, someone they know or have seen has one, or that the characteristics of the dog are easier to know. Perhaps you were raised around the breed, and you want that breed back in your life. Maybe you have done a lot of research and think that a purebred dog will fit into you life better. If you want a purebred dog, make sure to research the breed thoroughly. Also research a breeder. Make sure the breed will fit with your lifestyle and budget.

Mixed-breed dogs also have their attractions. The combination of breeds can produce wonderful dogs and can also balance the personalities and traits in a breed with desirable traits from another breed. Just make sure you are ready for the unexpected. this is especially true if you adopt a mixed-breed from the pound or shelter. You never know what mischief that dog will be getting into. There is also no way to predict the health challenges of a mixed-breed dog with the certainty that you can predict the health challenges of a purebred dog. However, when you get a mixed-breed dog from a pound or shelter you are saving the life of a dog and adding a wonderful new addition to your family.

Whichever one you choose, simply be prepared for having a dog. All dogs are wonderful additions to a family.

From Dedicated to Danty Yorkie’s Conquer All

When we think of the Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) we picture a cute little dog in a pink purse at the side of a Hollywood regular. The social site of a cute little head peeping out the top of a designer bag, adorned in her little pink bow. But lets face it how many of us actually know their history? Did you know Yorkshire Terriers helped fight in World War II? Well… ok at least Smokey did.

Found by an American soldier in an abandoned fox-hole, then later sold to William Wynne during a poker game, this little Yorkie became Wynn’s unofficial war dog. She backpacked through war dangling fearlessly from Wynn’s pack near his machine guns. Smokey warned Wynn of incoming shells while hunkered down in foxholes (and we think sit is an outstanding trick for a puppy). She was even credited with twelve combat missions and awarded eight battle stars.

Smokey’s outstanding acts paved the way for a new found love of this breed during World War II, pushing many to covet the terrier intelligence. Those who love the breed still hold true dedication to the small yet loyal companion. Yorkie’s today reap the benefit of the well deserved spoils from their owner. The dedication from this breed is truly evident in Smokey’s drive to keep Wynn from danger and proves this breeds strongest asset is devotion.

Check out our Yorkie breeders to see if you can find the loyal companion you have been searching for.

A puppy playing in the leaves

What an adorable puppy picture! This puppy is obviously having fun in the leaves, and looks like it is ready to conquer the next pile. This is a great activity for fall. Puppies love to jump and tear into things, dig through piles and create piles of their own – they are just like little kids. So what better way to indulge this desire then give the puppy a pile of leaves to play with. What a great picture of an adorable dog.

Where to find your new dog

Once you have made the decision to get a dog, you have to make the decision on where to get the dog from. There are many options out there ranging from pet stores, breeders, pounds and other organizations. Before you buy, research the organization, breeder or store to make sure they are not fronting for a puppy mill. Puppy mills are horrible places and you do not want to support those businesses. Then go see the place you are buying from. The place should be clean, smell clean (not of bleach!) and the dogs should be happy and playful. If you visit the place and get a bad feeling, don’t buy from there.

Here are some tips to help you on your way to choosing where to get a dog or puppy from:

1. Animal Shelters:These can be a great place to pick a dog from. Sometimes you can even find a pure-bred dog in the shelters. Shelter dogs are sometimes trained, and sometimes not. Many come from circumstances where they were not loved or cared for. Talk to the people at the shelter to get an idea of personality. Also, many shelters will let you play with the dog, or take it out on a walk, before you take it home. Bring everyone in the family to the shelter to pick the dog so everyone can interact with the dog. Otherwise, the dog may act fine towards you at the shelter, and hate your husband.

2. Rescue Organizations:These organizations are generally dedicated to one breed, or one situation of dog. There are rescue groups for Labradors and Greyhounds. There are even some groups that just take whatever animals they can from the shelter to prevent the animals from being put down. Rescue groups are dedicated to finding good matches for their dogs, not simply getting the dogs into a home. Some rescue organizations keep their dogs in foster families until the dogs are ready to be adopted. This means there is someone with a lot of information about the dog – so be sure to talk with them. Bring the whole family, as the rescue group may require the whole family to agree on the dog before letting the dog go home with you.

3. Breeders:Breeders are dedicated to one breed of dog, and are the most expensive option. However, if you are longing for one breed, or specific characteristics, then this is the option for you. Make sure the breeder is a good breeder, and not a backyard operation. A good breeder has records, certifications and will be willing to show you all of these. A breeder’s place should be clean and filled with fun. If the puppies are whining, the parents are no where to be seen, or the cages are really small – consider going elsewhere. One good way to find a breeder is to ask a vet. You can also get a referral from the American Kennel Club or other dog clubs. If you have a bad feeling when you visit the breeder, leave.

Whatever option you choose, make sure the dog is the right dog for you. This dog will be part of your family for years to come, and you want to make sure it is a right fit.
