The Pekingese comes to us from China where it is also known as the Lion Dog, Sun Dog or Sleeve Dog. The pup was first bred in the 8th century where only the nobles could own it. Stealing this pup was punishable by death. The dog was first introduced to the west when the British looted the Imperial Palace and brought a number of the dogs back to Queen Victoria.
