If ever there was a misunderstood breed, it is the Rottweiler. People tend to lump it in with Pit Bulls, but the temperament of this breed boils down almost completely to how you train them from an early age. • Is a Rottweiler a big and intimidating looking breed? Yes, it was bred to act as a guard dog and is often used for police work.
• Is this dog naturally aggressive? Not really, but they were bred to be guard dogs and are extremely loyal so they respond aggressively to what they perceive as threats to their family.
• Is a Rottweiler good with kids? Yes, if it is socialized early on with humans. A reserved dog, a "Rotty" that has not been socialized can sometimes not know what to do with babies. On the other hand, I see one pulling my neighbor's kid down the road on his skateboard pretty much every day and they appear to be best buds.
• If you don't have time to commit to training your new Rotty puppy, don't go with this breed. 
• This is a strong, big breed that will weigh in around 100 pounds on average. It is all muscle and they need to be trained or they will pull you all over the place on walks. 
• These pups can have hip problems.
