More About ...

Malteses

The Maltese is among the oldest of all breeds, and is now one of the most popular toy breeds. Weighing four to seven pounds when fully grown, this breed has a long silky coat that sheds very little. Daily brushing and combing is recommended to prevent tangling. This breed loves to run and play. Short walks and indoor or outdoor play sessions are advised every day. Maltese puppies are gentle but may bark a lot. They make great lap dogs and are good with children. Early socialization is recommended if they are to live with other dogs. May be crossed with the Silky Terrier to create the Silkese.

Cool Maltese Fact:

The Maltese does not carry fear.  In fact, the breed is fearless

Maltese Puppies for Sale: Brave as well as Beautiful

It is thought that the Maltese originally came from Italy, but they were first recognized as a legitimate breed in Malta, where they soon became popular with royalty and nobles. In fact, noblewomen used to carry them around in their sleeves.

If you are thinking about Maltese puppies for sale because you want a family dog, then this breed is perfect – as long as you stay in control. As soon as the dog believes that he is Alpha Canine, you run a very serious risk of him becoming possessive and possibly snappy.

Maltese are extremely loyal dogs and very protective; in fact, they are believed to be frightened of nothing. They are intelligent so they learn quickly, and make perfect companions.

Even though they are a small breed and will do well in a smaller home, Maltese still need lots of exercise, both to stay fit and for mental stimulation, which will also help to make him more sociable. The thing to remember, too, when you’re looking at Maltese puppies for sale is that you will need to take great care of his coat. Some people decide to clip the hair to make it easier to manage, but if you decide to keep it long it will have to be gently brushed on a daily basis.

Other grooming involves cleaning the eyes and beard so that they don’t become stained; the coat under the eyes from tearing, and the beard from eating. If you decide to give your Maltese a bath, make sure that he keeps warm and is dried as soon as possible.
